OnePlus-3-hands-on

Earlier this year, we received word from OnePlus that they planned to get Nougat onto the OnePlus 3 and 3T before the end of the year. As we quickly approached the New Year, many became skeptical that this deadline would be met. Now, on the last day of 2016, Carl Pei, Co-founder of OnePlus, has announced that they will begin rolling out a stable build of OxygenOS 4.0 (Nougat) later tonight…

Google’s Pixel smartphone received a ton of praise following its announcement, including in our review, but in the time since, several hardware and software issues have been forcing many to take a second look at Google’s flagship. There have been camera issues, defects, and even some audio problems, but now another issue is starting to pop up, and it’s easily the worst yet ─ premature battery shutdowns.

Prior to the release of the Google Pixel, one of the best Android smartphones on the market was the premium, powerful, and affordable Nexus 6P. However, the reputation of that device is certainly going downhill with several issues popping up as the phone ages. Now, some Nexus 6P owners are reporting a bootloop issue on their devices.

Android skins from Chinese OEMs have always been pretty bad, and Huawei has always been one of the worst contenders. Despite releasing awesome hardware, it’s always been hard to recommend the company’s devices due to the software. With the release of Nougat, though, things are improving, and now we know when Honor 8 users can expect that update.

Two months later, Google still hasn’t fixed the early shutdown bug appearing on some Nexus 6Ps

We’ve long hailed the Nexus 6P as one of the best Android smartphones on the market and by most measurements, that’s still very true. However, as with any phone, things start to degrade over time. That’s especially true when it comes to the battery, but something especially odd and potentially dangerous has been happening with the Nexus 6P, and Google still hasn’t fixed it.

In early November, Samsung announced the Galaxy Beta Program which allowed customers with the Galaxy S7 or S7 edge to beta test the upcoming release of Nougat. pixel_checkforupdate_1

Android 7.1.1 began rolling out to the Pixel and Pixel XL last Monday with a number of small fixes, as well as two new Moves. A new version of 7.1.1 has just been posted to the developer site and deals with fixing a connectivity issue.

It’s been a while since Android Nougat went public, but in the time since, not many OEMs have gotten around to pushing system updates to bring devices up to Google’s latest OS. With the latest monthly distribution numbers, Nougat still sits at just 0.4%, and even less can be said for the newer Android Nougat 7.1.1. Now, however, it seems like Samsung is planning to skip 7.0 and go directly to 7.1.1.

Update 12/27: Following a small update aimed at devices on UK carriers, Verizon has just listed a new build (NMF26U) for the Pixel and Pixel XL. This update is likely minor with release notes only mentioning security patches. Interestingly, the Google Developer site has not been updated with links to the factory image or OTA.

Following a brief developer preview, Android 7.1.1 is now available for Nexus and Pixel devices. The update brings features that have been on the Pixel since October to current Nexus and Android One devices, as well as the Pixel C. Meanwhile, the Pixel and Pixel XL gain some new Moves and other bug fixes.

Sony Xperia XZ, X Performance, Verizon LG G5 pick up Android Nougat

sony_xperiaxz_5

A little over 4 months after its release on Nexus devices, Android Nougat is finally starting to pick up steam after some pretty dismal distribution numbers during its first couple of months. Recently we’ve seen the likes of HTC updating unlocked devices, and LG updating international and local G5 units, Samsung pushing out betas, and even Huawei sub-brand Honor working to update devices to Google’s latest OS. Today, even more devices are picking up Android Nougat.

OnePlus-3-hands-on

OnePlus CEO Carl Pei said earlier today that the OnePlus 3’s Android Nougat release is getting priority over the many complaints people have about its touch latency issues, and it looks like he was serious. Now, the now-outdated flagship from the Chinese company is getting its first beta build of OxygenOS based on Android Nougat…

According to Vodafone Australia, Android 7.1.1’s consumer release to Nexus devices will coincide with next month’s security patch on December 5th. The OTA comes less than two weeks after the second Android 7.1 Developer Preview and brings Nexus phones and tablets to software parity with the Pixel and Pixel XL.
