Android Nougat is starting to roll out to some Verizon Moto Z and Moto Z Force users, enables Daydream VR

About two months ago, Motorola confirmed it would be rolling out the latest version of Android, 7.0 Nougat, to the Moto Z family by the end of the year. Ahead of any announcement, it appears that update is rolling out to some users of the DROID edition Moto Z smartphones

According to some Reddit users, the update, labeled NCL26.86-11, weighs in at around 1.5GB and should install in about 20 minutes.

Motorola’s change log attached to the update notes a few included Android Nougat features such as split-screen multitasking, “quick switching” by double tapping the recent apps button, customizing the quick settings menu, and other lesser known features such as data saver.

Another inclusion is compatibility with Google’s new Daydream VR platform. That means Moto Z and Moto Z Force users can pick up the Daydream View headset and use it with their devices.

So far it seems that this update is only heading out to Verizon Moto Z users, but not everyone is getting it quite yet. The Moto Z we have in office isn’t seeing an update just yet, but if you want to check head to settings > system updates > check for system update. Updates for the Moto Z Play and unlocked models should also be coming soon.
