After upgrading most of the Nest Hub series, it seems Google’s Fuchsia team is looking to move on to supporting Google Assistant speakers like the Nest Audio and what looks to be a new speaker for 2023.

Google TV has been on the market for almost two years at this point but has seen only a few major features added in that time. Now, just days after we reported on free live TV channels coming to Google TV, a new report reveals Google’s plans to bring Nest Audio support and integration with Fitbit and Wear OS to the platform.

One of the core features that was confirmed to be in the works for the Chromecast with Google TV, the ability to use Nest Audio as a speaker, has still not been launched.

Google is sending out a promo email to select users of older Google Home and Nest speakers to offer a discount of $25 USD on Nest Audio. The email, which went out this morning, encourages an “upgrade to Nest Audio” for better sound quality and marks down the original $99.99 price to $74.99.

Earlier this month, unused marketing hinted at Google’s latest smart speaker becoming a “home theater sound system” for its Google TV streaming dongle. Google has now confirmed it is working on Nest Audio and Chromecast integration.

While Google’s latest smart speaker is priced affordably, it’s positioned to compete at a higher tier. With that comes the expectation of more features to offer a differentiation, and the Nest Audio might get the ability to be used as a “home theater sound system” for content playing on the Chromecast with Google TV.
