Sony Xperia XZ, X Performance, Verizon LG G5 pick up Android Nougat

A little over 4 months after its release on Nexus devices, Android Nougat is finally starting to pick up steam after some pretty dismal distribution numbers during its first couple of months. Recently we’ve seen the likes of HTC updating unlocked devices, and LG updating international and local G5 units, Samsung pushing out betas, and even Huawei sub-brand Honor working to update devices to Google’s latest OS. Today, even more devices are picking up Android Nougat.

First of all, LG’s push to bring Nougat to the LG G5 expands today to customers on Verizon Wireless after hitting users on Sprint and T-Mobile last month. The update weighs in at 1.6GB, so you’ll definitely want to be charging your device and stay on wifi while it downloads and installs.

The update, version number VS98726B, adds all the usual Nougat features such as spilt-screen multitasking, the revised notification shade/quick settings menu, and more, but it also includes a few customizations from LG including a theming engine. The overall look of the update matches closely with LG’s skin on the V20.

In related news, Sony is in the process of rolling out Android Nougat to the Xperia X line. Things kick off with the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ, both of which have been updated to firmware version 39.2.A.0.327. The update, of course, brings many of Nougat’s built-in features, but also some enhancements to Sony’s own features such as the camera which now has improved manual controls and the home screen which now features Google Now integration.

Nougat is currently rolling out to the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance worldwide and will be available for the Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Compact over time.
