Verizon Google Pixel 3 is SIM-locked, will need to be unlocked to use on other carriers [Update]

For the better part of the last decade, Verizon’s smartphones haven’t been SIM-locked. That means that a Verizon phone can work on basically any other network even if you bought it directly from the carrier. Now, though, the carrier is changing those rules, and that means that the Verizon Pixel 3 is locked down to the Big Red.

Sony’s Xperia XZ2 Compact is officially certified for use on Verizon Wireless

Sony’s smartphones aren’t really a big deal in the United States, but with the arrival of the Xperia XZ2 family, many were curious if Sony would do anything to make them work better in the States. Thankfully for Verizon customers, the company did end up making the Xperia XZ2 Compact work with the nation’s largest carrier, and now it’s officially certified.

Justice Department examining possible antitrust collusion by AT&T, Verizon to limit eSIM

One notable feature of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL announced last fall was eSIM support that allows for cellular service without the need of a physical SIM card. Very few other devices have adopted the technology, so much so that the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating claims that AT&T and Verizon colluded to restrict eSIM.
