It looks like Samsung will upgrade the Galaxy S7 family directly to Android 7.1.1

Site default logo image

It’s been a while since Android Nougat went public, but in the time since, not many OEMs have gotten around to pushing system updates to bring devices up to Google’s latest OS. With the latest monthly distribution numbers, Nougat still sits at just 0.4%, and even less can be said for the newer Android Nougat 7.1.1. Now, however, it seems like Samsung is planning to skip 7.0 and go directly to 7.1.1.

New Reuters poll suggests that Note 7 debacle didn’t damage Samsung’s brand in the US

Site default logo image

note7

Following a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 due to dozens of device explosions, many expect Samsung’s brand as a whole to suffer. Other issues in the company’s vast array of products ─ namely washing machines ─ only contributed to that. However, according to a new poll, none of these episodes have significantly damaged Samsung’s brand in the eyes of customers (via Reuters)…

Here’s what Android Nougat looks like on the Samsung Galaxy S7 [Gallery]

galaxy s7

Android Nougat’s adoption rate has been pretty slow to date, only taking 0.3% of the Android market since its debut. However, that is set to increase as more OEMs update their devices to the new OS. LG announced a Nougat update for the LG G5 earlier this week, and soon after, a Nougat beta program kicked off for the Galaxy S7…

Samsung’s Nougat beta test for the Galaxy S7 kicks off Nov 9 in the US, UK, China, & South Korea

s7-press-render

Android Nougat has been out for a couple of months now, but in that time, it hasn’t caught on all that much. While Nexus, Pixel, and LG V20 users have the OS, few others do. While OEMs like LG are working on updating phones to the latest version of Android, Samsung is going to play a key role is getting that adoption rate up. Luckily, the company seems to be doing just that.

The OnePlus 3’s Dash Charge is faster than the Galaxy S7, and OnePlus wants you to know it [Video]

OP3 DC v GS7 FC

Despite being a relatively new company whose products often tend to lighten your wallets less than the likes of, say, Samsung or Apple, OnePlus is a company that always makes sure its voice is heard loud and clear. This is especially true when it comes down to reaffirming its position in the tech realm; and that, often, leads to direct comparisons like the one posted today…

Strong Galaxy S7 sales & cost-cutting give Samsung its most profitable quarter in two years

samsung

Samsung’s Q2 earnings report show that the company enjoyed its most profitable quarter in two years, building on the progress it made in the first quarter of the year. Year-on-year revenue was up 5% at 50.94T won ($45.2B), with profit up 18% to 8.14T won ($7.2B). The company credited strong sales of its flagship Galaxy S7 and S7 edge for the turnaround, with the edge model accounting for more than half of S7 sales.

The company believes the launch of the Galaxy Note 7 will help it maintain momentum into Q3, saying that it expects total smartphone sales to increase, though it does acknowledge that it won’t all be smooth sailing, with a veiled reference to Apple’s new iPhone launch this September …

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are beating the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in US sales

Samsung v Apple

2016 seems to be doing all sorts of good to Samsung. Its pair of flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, are receiving accolades from both the specialized press (including us) and customers, and the momentum will probably be kept up come the Galaxy Note 7, a little over a month from now.

Consumers in particular seem to be really happy with Samsung’s recent output, so much so that its sales are soaring arguably beyond expectations…

The best Android phones you can buy [July 2016]

oneplus-3-hands-ondfa

It’s already July, and with an ever-increasing number of notable Android OEMs reaching maturity, we’ve seen more new handsets than usual launch this summer. We had the Huawei Mate 8 and Honor 5X at CES in January, followed later by Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge and others around the time of Mobile World Congress, and last month saw the new OnePlus 3 and Moto Z. But which ones are the best buys?…

Samsung unveils unlocked versions of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge for the US, working with all major carriers

s7 edge

There’s no denying that the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are fantastic smartphones. The tech press — and, it seems, consumers — pretty much all agree on that, and some of us (like me) have gone even a little beyond that and proclaimed it the absolute best smartphone available right now.

One of Samsung‘s (historic) problems, however, was the additional layer of bloatware — and subsequently, eternally slow updating times — that came with it due to carrier-specific deals, but fans of unlocked phones may have a chance to rejoice now…

OnePlus 3 w/ RAM fix takes on the Galaxy S7 again, this time with better results [Video]

One-Plus-3

Even with its 6GB of RAM, a YouTube comparison revealed last week that the OnePlus 3 still had a bit of trouble with multitasking. When compared with the Galaxy S7 Edge, the OnePlus 3 took marginally longer to store and reload apps from memory despite its supposed advantage on paper. Later the same week, the talents over at XDA developed a potential fix for this issue and now the same YouTuber who started this is back with the fix applied to show us how it improves things.

Samsung keeps the first spot beating Apple once again in Asia’s ‘Top 1000’ brands ranking

T100BThe battle between Samsung and Apple for the first spot in the consumer electronics world seems to be never ending. As products get increasingly better it becomes progressively harder for brands like these to win the customers’ hearts (and wallets), but at least for 2016, Asia has spoken…

Sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge said to reach 25 million by the end of the month

s7 edgeThe Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are, without the shadow of a doubt, great products. I personally use an edge as my daily driver and went as far as calling it “the end of the Smartphone 1.0” era; whether this consideration is a stretch may be debatable, but numbers aren’t.

And, as far as those go, Samsung seems do be doing well…
