Full hardware specifications for Samsung’s Galaxy S8

Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S8, the successor to last year’s S7. Unlike last year’s model, the Galaxy S8 features a “bezel-less” screen that the company is calling an “Infinity Display.” On top of this, Samsung has unveiled its virtual assistant called Bixby which can be activated by holding down on a brand new physical button, located just below the volume rocker.

Samsung hasn’t made any drastic changes to its hardware or software for the past year or so, but the company has been doing great with bringing new features to older devices. Recently, the company quietly brought its “video lockscreen” from the S9 to last year’s crop of devices.

Samsung packs its devices full of features, some useful, some not. One of my personal favorites for the past few years has been the “Always-On Display” which debuted on the Galaxy S7. In recent releases and updates, Samsung has continually improved the feature. Now, Samsung is adding quite a few new customizations.

Android’s monthly security updates have done a great job in helping keep devices secure from the plethora of bugs that pop up from time to time. However, some are pretty slow about rolling them out. Today, T-Mobile and Samsung are rolling out May’s security patch to some devices.

Samsung has slowly been rolling out Android Oreo to its flagship devices from last year, and last week we saw the S8 complete its rollout to major carrier variants. However, unlocked users have been left in the dark when it comes to that update, with Note 8 owners in the same boat. Thankfully, Samsung is finally acknowledging that and giving answers.

Android Oreo hasn’t quite taken the foothold that Google wants it to in regards the Android market as a whole. The main reason for that is easily OEMs who have yet to update their devices to the latest OS. Samsung is the biggest Android OEM, so any steps it makes in this area make a difference. Now, the company is resuming its Android Oreo rollout to the Galaxy S8 after halting it earlier this month.
