In a press release this morning, LG announced that it has partnered with renowned audio company, B&O Play to bring high quality sound performance to the LG G5. The Korean tech giant notes that it has been working with the audio firm to ensure that the G5 has “the best sound experience” available to smartphone users.
While the Galaxy S7 has received almost all the pre-release attention, LG’s own upcoming flagship has seen its fair-share of Internet time. Most recently, an online listing showed up on a Dubai selling site, seemingly showing the all-metal device in full. In those images, it appeared as if the bottom edge was detachable, corroborating previous rumors that LG would be building in an innovative way to house a replaceable battery.
Despite being entirely touch-based for the overwhelming majority, a few successful smartphones have enjoyed styluses as secondary input peripherals, such as Samsung‘s famous Galaxy Note series. LG, not to stay behind, introduced a Stylus version of its G4 flagship last year, whose reception came as mixed due to a non-stellar pen implementation and an overall underwhelming experience.

With all the hype and abundance of leaks surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S7, it’s easy to forget that the other big Korean tech company is due to launch a brand new flagship smartphone soon. LG will unveil the G5 at an event in Barcelona on Sunday, Feb. 21 and is expected to depart from its usual plastic-bodied device in favor of an all-metal flagship.
Just a few days ahead of its launch, a unit has been spotted for sale on Dubai’s Dubizzle website, and seems to show the unit in the flesh for the first time.
The LG G5 and its accompanying accessories have already been thoroughly leaked, but LG might also be planning other phones in the G5 family. Last week, a device was spotted in GFXBench with a lesser processor, RAM, and camera.

Having already officially outed one of the features of its upcoming G5 smartphone, LG clearly isn’t shy about announcing features and products ahead of time. Ahead of their official debut, LG has revealed details of two Android Marshmallow-powered mass-tier phones called the X screen and X cam. The case is a new version of the Quick Cover case that the company has offered the past and incorporates many of the features that the LG K10’s Quick Cover View case featured.
Yesterday, a patent revealed that Samsung might be planning an ‘always on’ display feature for its next flagship, the Galaxy S7. While Samsung hasn’t passed comment on those rumors yet, LG was quick to respond by confirming that its next high-end G-series smartphone will have an ‘always on’ feature.
LG is a manufacturer capable of making brilliant hardware and well-considered smartphone designs. The LG G2 had impossibly thin bezels, unlike anything else on the market when it launched. Likewise, the G3 was the first mainstream smartphone to feature a Quad HD display. The G4 added to that with one of the best cameras we’ve ever seen on an Android phone and it gave us the option of really attractive, comfortable leather back panels.
LG announced its Q4 2015 earnings this morning and revealed that although the company as a whole saw growth and profitability, the mobile division made a loss. LG made $308 million in Q4 thanks mostly to strong performance from its Home Appliance and Air Solution Company.
Despite LG’s mobile division making a loss of around $39 million, LG managed to sell 15.3 million smartphones globally in the fourth quarter, bringing its total for 2015 up to 59.7 million units. That’s slightly better than 2014, when LG managed to sell 59.1 million smartphones. Sequentially, fourth quarter sales were up 12% on the third quarter, thanks to strong performance in North America, presumably as a result of launching the V10 flagship smartphone and holiday season sales…
The LG G4 was one of the best phones of 2015, filled with drool-worthy specs, excluding a metal build. With the 2016 rendition of the LG G5, rumors are pointing to a change in that. A new report from DroidLife claims that a source sent images of an LG prototype, most likely being that of the LG G5. The proposed G5 is in a protective casing in the images below, concealing any branding, however.
As unusual rumors go, this is up there with the best of them. According to CNET Korea‘s sources, LG is planning and testing a G5 design featuring an all-metal structure, but with a semi-modular design for removing and replacing the battery.
The LG G5 is expected to be announced right before MWC next month, after the company sent out invitations to press for an event on February 21st in Barcelona.
Last week, a sketchy rumor went around detailing the LG G5’s specifications. Today, the much more reputable VentureBeat is confirming those specs as well as adding new details on the upcoming device’s camera setup as well as other previously unknown hardware features.
