OnePlus and Realme are primarily known for their smartphones, but both have also been making smart TVs powered by Google TV for a while now. But soon that will apparently come to an end, at least in India.
OnePlus TV first launched in 2019, with a premium all-in-one design that had a built-in soundbar on a 55-inch QLED TV. New models, including more affordable tiers, were released over the next few years, and OnePlus made the transition from Android TV to Google TV earlier this year. Realme, meanwhile, launched its first TV sets in India in 2020, and has since also released a Google TV streaming stick in the country.
Times of India reports, citing industry sources, that OnePlus TV and Realme TV efforts powered by Google TV will end their time in the market in India, which is effectively killing off the smart TV lineups entirely given they were only really sold in India.
The sudden move comes as a surprise, as both OnePlus and Realme were reportedly seeing growth with TVs sold in India as the country’s smart TV market continued to grow. Xiaomi, apparently, will continue in the market, as it is currently a dominant player even beating out Samsung for the top slot.
OnePlus TV is still for sale at retailers such as Flipkart, and the brand’s own online store in India is still listing TVs for sale.
