Samsung reportedly ready to ship every device with Samsung Pay starting next year

According to Business Korea, a Samsung official has stated that the company is looking to “pre-install Samsung Pay in Samsung Electronics’ smartphones to be released from next year”.

This, the report clarifies, means essentially all models but a few low-end ones…

The service, which has mostly been promoted with the arrival of recent higher-end devices (namely the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines, as well as the Gear S3 smartwatch), will reportedly become a keystone of all Samsung phones, likely to fill in the wide gap left by Android Pay.

Other things (banks’ support and country availability) being equal, Google‘s service works on any device equipped with NFC and 2013’s Android KitKat (and beyond, of course), which makes it a much easier candidate for the vast majority of users. To tackle this, Samsung will push its own system as embedded, so to avoid the extra app-installing step to its millions of customers.

The report also mentions a comment from Koh Dong-jin, the president of Samsung Electronics’ mobile division, who said back in August that the firm was interested in making more fingerprint reader-enabled devices — a non strictly indispensible but rather handy addition when it comes to using it every day.

“When reducing costs, we think that fingerprint sensors can be installed from medium-priced products. We are considering mounting fingerprint sensors from the Galaxy J series,” he said. This would tie in nicely with yesterday’s speculation on the upcoming Galaxy A7, which should indeed sport the scanner.
