It goes without saying that the Samsung Galaxy S7 (and the S7 edge) and the LG G5 were the two big announcements today at Mobile World Congress 2016 press day, showcasing the best that these two Android OEMs have to offer. Both of these devices were horribly-kept secrets in their own ways, but now that they’re here, which one are you planning to get?
Let us know which one is your pick in the poll below, but first let’s take a look at a few of their differences…
First of all, the phones are fundamentally just different devices in many ways.
Like last year with Samsung’s complete reinvention of the Galaxy S line, LG is taking a chance on a brand new design for its G line this year. Much like how the Galaxy S6 departed from many years of plastic builds, the LG G5 is now an all-metal design — but there’s even more to it than that. Unlike the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, the LG G5 managed to move to all-metal while retaining the ability to easily swap batteries with its new modular design.
Samsung isn’t just sitting idly by as its competition innovates, however. While the S6 and S6 edge were praised for their high quality builds, they came with some disadvantages; most importantly, the S6 and S6 edge didn’t support memory expansion via micro SD card and didn’t launch officially with the water-proofing that the S line was known for in years past. With the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Samsung is bringing the best of both — those features are back this year.
And of course, there are hardware improvements all around for all three devices.
