Less than a year ago, Google Compare was launched in the United States to help customers find and compare credit card rates, mortgages, and car insurance. Now, however, Google has announced that it is shutting the Google Compare service down, reports Search Engine Land. Google’s specific reasoning for shutting down Compare is unclear at this point, but after being available for less than a year, it’s a pretty quick turnaround time for the company.

We told you early this year that Google added a mortgage calculator to Search, and now the company is taking things a step further. As was first mentioned by Google all the way back in May of this year, Google Compare for U.S. mortgages has now launched in California — with more states to follow…

Google Compare for mortgages provides a seamless, intuitive experience that connects lenders with borrowers online. Whether you’re a national lender or one local to California, people searching for mortgages on their smartphone or desktop computer can now find you, along with a real-time, apples-to-apples comparison of rate quotes from other lenders — all in as little as a minute.

You can head over to the Compare site to check out the new tool, and if you reside in California, you can actually use it. If you’re not one of the lucky souls that lives in the Golden State, you can of course use the quick mortgage calculator in search.

Google reportedly developing tool to allow users to compare local home repair services

According to a new report from BuzzFeed News, Google is planning to launch service that will allow users to easily communicate with providers of home repair services. The report claims that Google is interested in connecting users with plumbers, electricians, roofers, and various other handyman-type jobs.

Google today has revealed that it is launching its Google Compare service for car insurance in California. The feature was rumored back in January, but Google officially announced it today in a post on the Inside AdWords blog.

Google, which is known for dabbling in a variety of consumer fields, is apparently looking to begin selling automotive insurance in the United States. Google currently helps users buy insurance in Europe, but according to a variety of evidence collected by research blog Forrester, is looking to expand at least its automotive insurance efforts to the United States (via WSJ).
