Mobvoi’s latest TicWatch GTX ditches Wear OS for 10-day battery, $59 price

Mobvoi is known best in the US for its TicWatch lineup, consistently offering some of the best, more affordable smartwatches with Google’s Wear OS. On its latest release, though, Mobvoi is debuting the TicWatch GTX, a super-affordable smartwatch that replaces Google’s Wear OS.

Available for pre-order today, the TicWatch GTX is Mobvoi’s first smartwatch hitting the United States without Google’s Wear OS since the short-lived TicWatch 2 back in 2017. Why go for another OS? Mobvoi’s goals with this watch make it pretty clear.

For one, TicWatch GTX costs just $59, meaning specs that are well below what would make a Wear OS smartwatch run especially well. That includes an RLC8762C processor and just 160kb of RAM. The other reason? Battery life. On this watch, Mobvoi claims a whopping 10 days on a charge, far outlasting any Wear OS watch. That’s on the power-saving mode, though. “Regular” use only offers seven days of battery.

TicWatch GTX includes support for 24/7 heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, over a dozen different workout modes, and an IP68 rating for water resistance. In terms of size, it’s a 48mm chassis with a 1.28-inch TFT display.

Mobvoi hasn’t shown the ODM OS (own device manufacturer) in detail yet, but it’s clearly not as advanced as Wear OS. That means you’ll have fewer watch face choices too, but Mobvoi is including a feature that pulls photos from your phone. There are a little over 20 watch faces in total, four of which are pre-loaded on the watch. The band is 20mm and GTX is only available in black.

Mobvoi is opening pre-orders for TicWatch GTX today on its own website and users can get a 10% discount, too. The watch will be available to everyone on Amazon and Mobvoi.com for $59 on September 3.

Mobvoi announces pre-order for new affordable smartwatch, TicWatch GTX

Mobvoi’s latest affordable smartwatch, available to pre-order from today, includes 14 workout modes, personalized watch faces and up to 10 days battery life

San Francisco, CA – August 20, 2020 – Mobvoi, leading AI wearable company, backed by Google, is launching TicWatch GTX, its new affordable smartwatch offering value for money alongside essential and simplistic functionality.

Optimized for your everyday fitness and wellbeing

The TicWatch GTX boasts several apps to track health, offering 24/7 health monitoring without the need for a smartphone, including a comprehensive, real-time history of your heart’s health and steps taken on an hourly basis. Fitness tracking is enabled by 14 workout modes including running, cycling, swimming, and yoga, meaning you can track your fitness whether at home or away. Sleep tracking helps users keep on top of their sleeping habits, providing proactive sleep tracking which automatically detects and tracks sleep without tapping any buttons. Keeping up to date and on-trend

The TicWatch GTX keeps you connected with friends and family at all times with notification support for incoming calls and messages. Additional functions include music control, stopwatch, timer, weather, torchlight, and Find My Phone, for the ultimate hands-free experience.

Alongside four preloaded watch faces to choose from, the TicWatch GTX allows users to personalize their smartwatch more than ever before, with the option to use photos from your mobile phone’s camera reel. An additional 17 watch faces can be downloaded from the Mobvoi app.

Design and performance

TicWatch GTX battery is optimized for long-lasting durability and performance. With up to 10 days of battery life, depending on usage, users can count on the battery lasting. The watch will sustain seven days of battery life with regular use, while those wishing to conserve battery can opt for Power Saving Mode, which can last up to 10 days.

Alongside performance, the Mobvoi design team has worked on advancing the design to allow for swimming. The durable 20mm thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) band and IP68 water and sweatproof rating, make this smartwatch the perfect swimming companion.
