Twitter client Flamingo gets updated with new animations, tablet UI, stats graph, more [Video]

Twitter is every tech-head’s favorite social network, so it obviously needs a good app to be enjoyed with. The company’s own is a little lackluster, but fortunately good alternatives are around on Android. And my personal favorite, Flamingo, just got its biggest update yet…

Flamingo was, in my opinion, the best client around almost since its arrival last year. It did lack a few things here and there, but developer Sam Ruston — of Weather Timeline fame — made sure to fill in the gaps pretty quickly.

It immediately presented itself as the one app capable of striking the balance between a good use of Material Design and general speed and ease of use. Fenix lacked the former, while Talon was (and, in my opinion, still is) a tad too convoluted. And the good news is that update 1.9 (rolling out now) has just strengthened Flamingo’s lead, with a series of small fixes and new features that almost make me wish it will just stay as it is from now on.

For one, it has a redesigned icon, which has moved from the old fitting flamingo to a stylish (if a bit dull) hexagon of various shades of pink; all the other improvements, however, are practical. Here’s the full changelog:

New animations
Tweet preview in DM
Article preview in tweets
Rounded gifs
Tweet replies now contain threads
Hex chooser for colours
New tablet layout
User likes page
Like from notification
Financial hashtags
New search filtering
Graph for activity stats
Better hashtag suggestions
Custom time/date formats
Verified icon on avatars
YouTube author in preview
Opt to change icons on tabs
Faster notifications
Loads of new options and fixes

It’s a long list, but if I had to pick a few of the most significant changes, I’d point towards the renewed tablet UI, the slick in-line previews for things such as Instagram, YouTube, Flickr and articles’ links, and the long-requested Verified tick showed in profiles in the timeline.

To download the app, just head over to the Play Store, while if you are already a user and simply want to take a look at all the new features, play the video down below.
