Deal: Samsung’s Gear VR headset is currently half off on Amazon

VR on mobile is one of the least expensive ways to get into the space since you can use the smartphone you already own. However, many mobile VR solutions aren’t all that impressive. There are two clear leaders — Google’s Daydream, and the Samsung Gear VR. If you use a recent Samsung device, your choice should be pretty obvious, and there’s no better time to buy than right now.

Currently, several third-party sellers on Amazon are offering up the recently-released 2016 Gear VR headset. One sellers is offering the headset for $49.95, a decent cut down from the usual $99 price tag. Several other sellers also fulfilled by Amazon are offering the same product for $52 to $53 (with Amazon fulfillment), so there are certainly plenty of options to choose from if someone runs out of stock.

The 2016 refresh of the Samsung Gear VR brings along with it a wider field-of-view and new black design, but more importantly, a bit of future proofing.

This headset is fully compatible with current Samsung devices like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S6, but it was originally designed with the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 in mind, and thus comes with a USB-C adapter in the box. That USB-C adapter means it will also work with Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8.

If you’re interested in picking up the Gear VR on this sale, you can head over to Amazon to do so. If, though, you have another smartphone and are looking for a VR solution for that, you might want to take advantage of Google’s current sale on the Daydream View VR headset.
