Sony begins Android 7.0 Nougat rollout for the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium [Update: Xperia Z3+]

Update 1/18: As expected, 2015’s Sony Xperia Z3+ is beginning to receive Android 7.0 Nougat with the same 32.3.A.0.372 build.

While Nougat nearly doubled in usage over the last month, the latest version of Android is still only on .7% of devices. However, the continued flood of updates from OEMs should help, with Sony being the latest to release Android 7.0 for the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium.

According to Xperia Blog, software version 32.3.A.0.372 with Android 7.0 Nougat is currently rolling out to select variants of the Z5 and Z5 Compact with the December security patch. Updates for the Z5 Compact, Z4 Tablet, and Z3+ should be following shortly.

The January release is slightly behind Sony’s original December target date, with the company prioritizing the Xperia X, X Compact, X Performance, and XZ last year. The Z5 line launched globally in October of 2015, though was not available in the US until February of last year.

The update weighs in at 1.2 GB and brings Nougat features like multi-window support and better battery life. Sony also optimized the battery with other features including a new front camera interface with a self timer, a better messaging experience, and a smarter, more personalized home screen.

Sony is usually quite good at updating their devices, with the company already working on Android 7.1.1 for the Xperia X.
