Playlist is JBL’s new home speaker with Wi-Fi and Chromecast support built-in

As our homes get smarter, the peripherals around them become more connected and useful. Audio as a category is no exception, and JBL is today announcing a new speaker that will fit right in inside your smart home environment…

It’s the JBL Playlist, a home-dedicated high-res audio (96K/24 bit) device that uses a combination of Wi-Fi and built-in Chromecast functionalities to let you — and everyone at your house — enjoy music without the usual hassles that often come with Bluetooth.

To do so (via any cast-enabled service, like Spotify, Pandora, or Google‘s own Play Music) you will simply need to get it set up via the Google Home app, which will automatically link the Playlist to any device attached to the same network.

Of course, with Chromecast baked in out of the box, JBL’s speaker will also connect with your Google Home, too; just yell it to play some music and your audio will come through from the Playlist.

The Playlist will start to be available some time this spring for $149.95 at JBL.com and yet-undisclosed “select retailers” in blue, white and black colorations.
