Acer debuts the education-focused rugged Chromebook N7 at CES 2017

CES 2017 is going into full swing this week, and at the show we’re expecting quite a few exciting new product announcements. To help kick things off, Acer has just debuted a brand new Chromebook, the Chromebook N7.

This new education focused Chromebook brings a compact 11-inch display with a ruggedized design, fanless design, and an optional touchscreen model as well.

The Chromebook N7 isn’t the most exciting Chromebook we’ve seen in recent months, but it certainly seems to be a fantastic option for classrooms. Acer claims that the rugged design can withstand drops of up to 48 inches, drops directly onto the corner, and up to 132 pounds of downward force on the top cover.

It also features a spill-resistant keyboard with special keys that students cannot easily remove. Further, the battery is rated at 12 hours, more than enough for a full day’s use before plugging back in.

Chromebooks have become the de facto standard for education technology in many districts around the country. The new Acer Chromebook 11 N7 (C731) will set the bar even higher for what schools utilize for their classrooms and labs – a durable design, quiet fanless operation and a portable form factor that makes them easy to transport for 1:1 programs, around the classroom, outside and in the lab.

As for specs, the Chromebook N7 is a pretty basic machine. It runs on top of the Intel Celeron N3060, 4GB of RAM, and 16GB or 32GB of storage.  It also offers two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Pricing on the N7 lands at $229 and will be available to both education and commercial consumers starting in the US in January.
