With a quiet online store unveiling, Lenovo has officially announced its new Edge smartphone, which figures under the company-backed Zuk brand. With its low price and good spec sheet, there’s quite a lot to love…
One of the things that seems to be getting quite a lot of traction in smartphone design these days is — fortunately, dare I say — a renewed effort to make front panels increasingly more bezel-free.
This is why, following other OEMs (most notably, Xiaomi with its Mi Mix), Lenovo has focused on making the 5.5-inch, 2D-curved Full HD display of the Edge as much as 86.4% of the entire device’s facade, which is indeed impressive.
But that’s far from all: to power the phone, Zuk went straight to the top and picked Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 821 SoC, backed by either 4 or 6GB of RAM and a hefty 3100mAh battery, with Quick Charge 3.0 support through the USB-C port.
Cameras are also high-end, at least on paper, with a 13MP shooter on the back (at f/2.2 aperture, which isn’t particularly wide, but with large 1.34μm-sized pixels) and a 8MP one on the front; underneath the main eye there is, of course, a fingerprint scanner, which Zuk claims to be able to read fingerprints in as little as 0.09 seconds.
The unfortunate part, as you may have expected, comes in terms of availability, as there’s no word regarding a potential release for countries other than China, where the phone retails for 2299 CNY (~330 USD) or 2499 CNY for the 6GB model (~360 USD). It will start shipping on January 1st in both Titanium Black and Ceramic White.
With such an interesting design and specsheet — and Android Nougat out of the box to top it all off — we would certainly hope to see a device like this make its way to at least Europe and the US, but we can only hope for now.
