Samsung said to be ready to step up its selfie game with the Galaxy S8

Cameras in phones are just about the single most important component for a whole lot of people. However, when thinking about your device’s “camera,”  you probably have an idea of the rear shooter in your head.

And while that’s not going to go anywhere anytime soon, the front facing module is becoming increasingly important, which would explain Samsung‘s alleged interest in stepping up its game…

According to a report from the Korean publication ET News, Samsung is working to bring autofocus to the front eye of its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8.

Considering just how many selfies people take, it actually seems weird that this feature hasn’t become mainstream already. Though, for instance, one of the main features of the just-announced OnePlus 3T is its improved front camera.

Popular apps like Snapchat and Instagram see their respective “Stories” flooded with self-portrait pictures, and most Samsung customers will likely be happy about the change — if it turns out to be anything beyond a rumor.

ET News is also reporting that the VCM (Voice Coil Motor) used in the S8’s front camera will allow the module to be slimmer, which may help reduce the overall dimensions. he resolution, however, is still unknown, so it’s unclear whether it will be stepped up from the 5MP of the S7.

In any case, following the Note 7 fiasco, Samsung will have much more to prove than that. Fortunately for them, what we have heard for now seems to point towards a true beast of a device. From design, to camera, to sheer power and inclusion of a smart AI-powered assistant, the S8 could be on track have it all. We just hope for that to actually be the case.
