Alcatel now offers the IDOL 4S for $349 without the VR headset

Alcatel’s IDOL 4S is an excellent “budget” smartphone, but during my time using it, I couldn’t help but feel it was ever so slightly overpriced. With competitors like the ZTE Axon 7 and Honor 8 on the market for the same price, I felt the device would be a better option if it were priced about $50 cheaper. Well, now it is.

Today Alcatel has started offering the IDOL 4S on Amazon for $349, this time without the virtual reality headset which is included in the standard variant. To me, this is a pretty decent option. The VR headset included with the IDOL 4S is good, but it’s nothing incredible, especially compared with Google’s Daydream View headset.

All you’ll lose by opting for this new $349 price point is the headset, still keeping the same Snapdragon 652 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, dual 3.6W speakers, and the excellent metal/glass build. Right now this option is available exclusively through Amazon, but I’d imagine it will expand to other outlets in the near future.
