We’ve seen leaks regarding the Moto M for a few months and last night Lenovo made the phone official in the Chinese market. As expected, this is a mid-range smartphone with a premium all-metal design and mid-range specifications.
The Moto M brings a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 2.5D glass. Under the hood, it packs an octa-core MediaTek Helio P15 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz and paired with the Mali T860MP2 GPU. There’s also 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot, 16MP rear camera, and an 8MP front-facing shooter. It also has 4G LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi AC, and Bluetooth 4.1.
Previously there was some confusion around the battery capacity on the Moto M, rumored to land at over 5000 mAh. As great as that would’ve been, it didn’t come to be. Rather, the Moto M packs a still-respectable 3,050 mAh battery with USB-C for charging.
Overall, the Moto M is basically a premium Moto G4. It has the same camera sensor and essentially the same power, but with a fingerprint sensor moved from the front to the back and other minor changes. Out of the box, the Moto M also runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Sales for the Moto M kick off November 11th in China only. Pricing lands at ¥1,999 ($295) and the phone will be available in gold and silver.
