How to bring fingerprint sensor quick actions from Pixel and Huawei to your device

A feature that we have seen on the Honor 8 and now the Google Pixel is the ability to swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to bring down the notification shade. While Google has confirmed that the gesture would not make its way to Nexus devices, a developer has made an application that will bring the feature to any phone running Android 6.0 or above with a fingerprint sensor.

The developer shared his application on XDA and his story about how he wanted to make his device sleep by simply tapping on his fingerprint sensor. The issue is that the Pixel and Honor phones require hardware support so the developer found a way to use the accessibility settings to detect tapping and swiping motions on the sensor to enable certain actions, such as the notification panel.

Currently, you can set up quick actions for a single tap and a fast swipe on the fingerprint sensor. Some of the functionality is still quite buggy, though, and might not respond every time to you tap or swipe on the sensor. Additionally, you will need root on your phone if you want the ability to turn off your display using a quick action.

Watch the video below for a quick demonstration of the application. You can download the APK file here and sideload the app on your device to give it a try. As the Fingerprint Quick Action application is not on the Google Play Store, you will need to occasionally revisit the XDA forum to download updates.
