You can now stream Facebook videos to your TV via Chromecast or Apple TV

Over 100 million hours of videos are consumed daily on Facebook and now you can easily stream that video to the big screen via the hardware you probably already have. Facebook announced today that streaming from the web browser or iOS app via AirPlay to your Apple TV or Chromecast is now available. To watch a video from Facebook on your TV:

  • Find a video you want to watch on your phone or desktop and press the TV symbol in the top right corner.
  • Select the device you want the video to stream to.
  • Enjoy the video right from your TV.

While you’re watching a Facebook video on your TV, you can go back and scroll through News Feed on the device you’re streaming from, so you can catch up on other stories while your video keeps playing on the TV. Or you can find more videos to watch by choosing a new one from places like News Feed or your Saved tab. And if you’re streaming a Facebook Live video to your TV, you can see real-time reactions and comments on the screen, and you can join in the conversation yourself by reacting or commenting.

Facebook’s push into the living room comes as the company continues to try and lure content creators away from services like YouTube in favor of its own platform. The number of YouTube videos shared on Facebook has gradually been declining over recent years, while YouTube has even went as far as to offer bonuses to its content creators in an effort to ensure new videos are shared on YouTube first.
