AT&T officially halts Galaxy Note 7 sales after continued explosions of replacement units [Update: Other carriers dropping it too]

After several explosions over the past few days of replacement Galaxy Note 7 units, AT&T has decided to completely halt sales of the Galaxy Note 7…

This come after a report from Bloomberg just two days ago suggested that AT&T was considering exactly this. The carrier issued a statement to us today over email confirming that it would no longer be exchanging Note 7 units for replacement Note 7s — instead directing customers to use an alternate Samsung device or another device of their choice.

Based on recent reports, we’re no longer exchanging new Note7s at this time, pending further investigation of these reported incidents. We still encourage customers with a recalled Note7 to visit an AT&T location to exchange that device for another Samsung smartphone or other smartphone of their choice.

All four carriers are also offering refunds of the Note 7 if requested, and odds are the rest will join AT&T in pressing pause on sales of the device this week as well. Samsung and CSPC are currently working to figure out what is happening with the replacement devices, but things aren’t looking good. With everything that has happened so far, it’s pretty safe to say that the Note 7 is probably done.

Update: A report from Android Police says that T-Mobile is also now halting sales of the device. The Verge has also obtained a statement from Verizon which confirms that the carrier will also be suspending sales.
