Navbar Apps
One of the best things about on-screen navigation is the fact that you can customize it. It’s great to get updates to on-screen buttons through software updates, and some OEM skins let you adjust navigation as well. That said, it would be nice to have further customization available for the navigation bar. It does seem like Google is working on this for a future release, but for now, you can make your navigation bar your own with Navbar Apps.
This free app allows you to easily adjust the look of your on-screen navigation buttons with colors, images, and more. The first big feature of Navbar Apps is the ability to change the color of the bar based on that app you’re within. It doesn’t work perfectly, but it’s a nice touch to your Android experience, although you can also set a constant static color if you’d like to.
Along with that you can also add an image to the navigation bar, or show your battery percentage. Pretty soon, the developer will also be adding the ability to show music bars while music is playing. I’ll assume he means a visualizer.
Tired of your boring Navigation Bar? Make it awesome! Turn it blue, make it red – anything you want. Select cool image as background or match color automatically to fit it to running app. Whatever you choose, it will be awesome! And then add some data, like battery level. Sleep Timer
Just recently Google added a sleep timer to the official Google Play Music app for Android, and it reminded me just how much I love using the same feature through another app. Aptly-named Sleep Timer, this app allows users to quickly set a sleep timer for any music (or podcast) app they’re using. For me that’s Spotify, but it will also work with Pandora, Pocket Casts, and more.
The app is pretty straightforward. Open it, set a timer, and hit start. From there any music you have playing will be paused automatically when the timer finishes. The app also features a customizable widget which can set and timer and open your favorite music app with just one tap. I’ve been using this app for a long time as a part of my daily routine, so I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a sleep timer.
Sleep Timer lets you fall asleep to your favorite music. You simply start your music, and then set the countdown timer. At the end of the countdown, Sleep Timer softly fades your music out and stops it. Allowing you to get your precious sleep and stops your battery from draining.

Conscient
Our phones are getting really good at predicting what we want before we ask, and a lot of that is thanks to Google. One method Google uses to find out what users might want is the Awareness API. This takes data from various sensors on the phone and figures out what you might be doing. A great example of how this can be useful to developers and users alike is Conscient. This app allows users to create custom “fences” which take certain conditions such as walking, running, or driving and lets you assign a specific action to those conditions.
For example, often when I’m driving I’ll need to pull up Google Maps, and because I’m driving I want to get that done as quickly as possible. With a custom fence I created in Conscient, I can get a notification when I’m driving that allows me to quickly launch Google Maps. I can also set it to open the app automatically if I would like.
This app doesn’t work perfectly, but for basic tasks it’s great. Unlike other apps that do similar things, Conscient puts very minimal stress on your battery as well. Best of all, it’s free.

Digit
One thing that seems hard for everyone is saving money. Whether you have a lot or a little, it can be difficult to remember to put a few dollars aside. With Digit, you can do that automatically.
So how does it work? The basic explanation is that Digit attaches to your bank account, monitors your spending habits, and finds little opportunities to save anything from a couple of cents to a dollar or two. That money goes into a secure savings account which you can pull from at any time. Now, whenever something free attaches to your bank account you might get worried, but with Digit there’s no need. To make money Digit takes any interest that is made off of what you save, but never takes away from what you have saved. I’ve been using the service for several months now without any issues and have saved well over $200 in that time, money that can be really useful in a pinch.
The service, which has been around for a while, has just introduced a new Android app which lets you manage your savings and actions within the apps. Previously everything was handled over SMS, so this new app makes interacting with the service just a bit easier. You can even make up to $25 by referring friends to the service, if you catch my drift…

Muviz
Music is one of the biggest uses for a smartphone, and with Muviz, you can bring your audio experience to life with a visualizer that rests on your navigation bar. For devices with on-screen navigation this means you’ll be able to see the visualizer behind your back, home, and recent buttons. If you don’t have on-screen navigation, Muviz will still work by docking the visualizer to the bottom of your display.
In my brief testing of Muviz so far, I’m loving the experience. It works great, doesn’t seem to affect my battery too much, and it adds a bit of fun to your music listening experience. The app is free to download and includes several themes for free, but some of the extra options will require an in-app purchase.
