Google just confirmed its latest acquisition with an announcement on its Google Cloud Platform blog that it’s purchasing video/broadcasting platform Anvato.
Google says that Anvato’s Media Content Platform, which it notes offers a fully automated platform for “encoding, editing, publishing and secure distribution of video content across multiple platforms,” will complement its own cloud offerings for customers that need scalable video infrastructure:
The cloud is transforming the way video content is created and distributed to an array of connected devices, as well as the way users engage with this content. And in recent years, the adoption of over-the-top (OTT) technologies has emerged as a critical platform for delivering rich audio, video and other media via the Internet.
With OTT adoption rapidly accelerating, the Cloud Platform and Anvato teams will work together to deliver cloud solutions that help businesses in the media and entertainment industry scale their video infrastructure efforts and deliver high-quality, live video and on-demand content to consumers on any device — be it their smartphone, tablet or connected television.
Anvato’s main products include software for broadcasters that assists with live streaming, video encoding, syndication, media players, ad insertion, and subscriptions. In its own statement announcing the acquisition by Google, Anvato notes its current customers include NBCUniversal, MSNBC, CBS, Univision, HGTV, Bravo, and Fox Sports, to name a few.
Google didn’t share any specifics on when it might start integrating or offering Anvato’s services, but it said to expect more details on the partnership in the months to come.
