Latest Active leak reveals device with similar specs to regular Galaxy S7 + 4,000 mAh battery

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active has been well revealed in numerous leaks and photos. Thanks to the latest one (via Venture Beat) we now know the specs of the Active variant. The AT&T exclusive device does not stray too much from the current S7 and maintains the same ruggedness as its predecessor.

Like American variants of the Galaxy S7, the Active uses a Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM and has 32GB of internal storage expandable via a micro SD slot. It retains the same 5.1-inch 1440 x 2560-pixel AMOLED display, 12 megapixel camera, and will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

The most notable changes are a larger 4,000 mAh battery (compared to 3,000 mAh on the regular S7) and the extra bulk needed to secure the device from the elements and drops. The Active is 30 grams heavier and 2 mm thicker than the Galaxy S7. The device will come in the previously seen gold color and a new model that has a green face and black rear. Unfortunately, the previously seen camo-print rear is not mentioned.

With the regular Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge now sporting water and dust resistance, the argument for a more rugged device is less obvious. The sleek and excellent design of the S7 is forgone for protections that might be an overkill for the majority of phone consumers who inevitably use a case.
