Xiaomi’s next move: Drones to be unveiled on May 25th

Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi has teased on its own forums that it will soon be announcing its very first drone. It’s a huge step away from its usual Android-powered devices, and will see the company’s first entry in to the quad-copter market.

Xiaomi has long been an ambitious company. Prior to this year, it’s been known primarily as a smartphone manufacturer, offering high end performance at budget prices. Never has that been more clear than with the recent launch of the budget Mi Max phablet.

That strategy has seen it become one of the biggest companies in China. But it has its eyes set on the international market, and in the skies. The company will show off its very first drone on May 25th at 7pm local time, and teased the event with imagery that leaves little to the imagination…

Something wonderful and cool is flying to us very soon. A Bamboo-copter? In China, it’s the earliest flying toys consisted of feathers at the end of a stick, which was rapidly spun between the hands and released into flight.

2016 has already been a really busy year for the Chinese tech company. For the first time ever, it launched a product outside China, with the Mi 5 unveiling in Barcelona back in February. Even more recently, it revealed that it will be launching an Android TV box in the US during the opening of Google’s I/O conference this week. What’s more, it will be supporting Google’s Daydream VR technology.

It’s clear to any onlooker then that the Chinese tech giant sees a big future outside of its home country and outside the world of smartphones, tablets and TVs. It seems the company is only just getting started.
