Sony’s Xperia XA Ultra is now official with a monster 6-inch display and a 16MP selfie shooter

Sony‘s moves in the mobile space continue to be somewhat confusing, as the company’s dedicated division continues to underperform, but that is not stopping the Japanese firm cranking out new and increasingly weird smartphones.

Today is the turn of the XA Ultra — which we had previously seen rumored as C6 Ultra — which packs fairly unique specs, namely its 16MP front facing camera and a monster 6-inch panel…

One may wonder who this device is for, and Sony’s answer seems to be that the latest entry in the Xperia X family is designed to be a “stylish selfie-cam masterpiece”.

Indeed, with a 16MP front-facing shooter, chances are your self-portraits will look beautiful, especially considering that, much like HTC‘s 10, the camera is optically stabilized.

To benefit from gorgeous selfies, however, you will have to deal with a gigantic 6″ screen, which is crammed into Sony’s distinctive glass-and-metal chassis — not exactly the bezel-less design one would want to deal with in such a case.

At 1080p resolution, however, the display should look fine, although we are not sure the 2700mAh battery will be enough to stand by the company’s “two days battery” claim.

The back camera is Sony’s signature Exmor RS’ 21.5MP shooter, with features like quick launch and hybrid autofocus to help it out.

A 64 bit, octa-core MediaTek MT6755 powers the device alongside Android Marshmallow, while memories include an expandable 16GB of flash storage and 3GB of RAM.

The Xperia XA Ultra will be available in White, Graphite Black and Lime Gold starting this July, with prices yet to be finalized.
