HP announces $199 Chromebook 11 G4 ‘Education Edition’

HP today announced a new Chromebook designed specifically for students and teachers with an ‘Education Edition’ model of its Chromebook 11 G4 starting at $199.

But what makes it an education edition exactly? HP says the Chromebook its “co-molded rubber edges help the device pass HP’s drop test (2.3 feet), while the spill-resistant keyboard keeps it safe from leaky lunchboxes.” And it’s the “thinnest rugged Chromebook for Education” yet, according to the company, at just 20 mm thin and just 2.7 pounds. You’ll also get around 9.5 hours of battery life, which the company notes is ideal for getting through an entire school day.

As for specs, inside you’ll find an Intel Celeron N2840 processor with Intel HD Graphics (2.16GHz, up to 2.58GHz), up to 4GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and an 11.6-inch 1366×768 display. On the exterior there is 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 HDMI port, and the usual headphone and power connectors.

The Chromebook 11 G4 ‘Education Edition’ will be available this month in the US starting at $199 (and going up from there for models with better processor and display specs).
