Verizon Moto X (2014) users can now unlock their device’s bootloader

If you’re still using a 2014 Moto X on Verizon, some good news has emerged today. A Motorola Forums Manager revealed today that the company will now allow bootloader unlocks for the 2014 Verizon Moto X, although it will still void the warranty.

Unlocking your device’s bootloader will allow for you customize your phone by doing things like flashing third-party ROMs. Of course, there’s somewhat of an added risk to doing this, but these days the developer community around devices like the Moto X is strong enough that there’s clear guidance available on what to do and what not to do.

Hey, everyone. Just wanted to let you know that we did get the green light to unlock the bootloader on Verizon 2014 Moto X (2nd Gen) devices. Unfortunately, we can’t do this for devices on other carriers. Also, the usual caveats apply – if you unlock your device, you void the warranty. But we know some of you want the flexibility and we’re glad we can offer it.

If you want to unlock your device’s bootloader, head over to Motorola’s website to get started.
