Sony is launching a 4K video store on its Android TVs this year

While Sony’s CES press conference was light on major news, it did announce a 4K video store for their line up of smart televisions. At last year’s CES, Sony chose Android TV as the OS for its smart TVs. As such, the ULTRA video store will be an Android app.

The ULTRA app will be released by Sony Pictures and filled with 4K content from their studio. At start there will be 40 to 50 new and classic titles, including Chappie, Fury, Elysium, The Walk, Men in Black 3, Salt, and Pineapple Express among others. Users will also be able to purchase and stream 4K TV shows. Some movies will include interactive extras for users to play around with.

As an Android app, Sony could theoretically release the app to other Android TV sets and boxes. But initially, it is are limiting it to their devices. It will launch later this year with the latest Bravia line of TVs in the US. How much items will cost and whether users will be able to download the videos is unknown at this point.
