Roundup: Best last-minute holiday deals on Android smartphones, tablets and TVs

We only have about one week to go before your holiday shopping is officially too late. And although Black Friday weekend and Cyber Week have all come and gone, that doesn’t mean retailers have given up on trying to persuade you to part with your hard-earned cash…

There are still some great prices on great tech out there. If it’s powered by Android, has great value for money, you’ll need look no further than right below:

Smartphones

Samsung Galaxy S6 – From $449

It’s not just a pre-holidays deal for the Galaxy S6, it’s also an end-of-life discount. Samsung is expected to launch the phone’s successor in a couple of months, meaning one of this year’s best phones is now available with a very healthy discount. You can grab a black one unlocked from B&H Photo Video for $449 including a 5200mAh fast-charging battery pack.

If you have no preference for unlocked versus carrier-locked, you can actually get it cheaper direct from T-Mobile. Using a combination of deals, you can snag a black or gold one for a total of $454. Regular price is $579, but you can claim $75 off using code DEAL75OFF, and then claim another $50 off from Samsung, giving you $125 discount.

Nexus 5X – From $329

The LG-made Marshmallow-powered Nexus wasn’t out long before it saw its first discount. From Black Friday weekend, the smaller of the newest Nexus phones was available with $50 off at a number of retailers, and the price still holds at time of writing. B&H is offering the phone for $329, and giving away $20 gift cards with the purchase. Amazon, Google Store and Best Buy are also selling for $329, but without the gift card offer.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 – $199

The Idol 3 recently made it on to our list as one of this year’s best budget smartphones, and that was when it was still listed at $249. Since this past weekend, the price has dropped to under $200 on Amazon, making it one of the best bargains of the holiday season so far. It hasn’t been that cheap since the initial pre-order phase back in spring.

ASUS ZenFone 2 – $269

Like the Idol 3, the ZenFone 2 was one of this year’s best value phones. Since its retail launch, the phone’s price has held steady at $299 for the 64GB model with 4GB RAM. Perhaps in response to (or as the inspiration of) the Idol 3’s price drop, the ZenFone 2’s price was discounted to $269.

Tablets

32GB Nexus 9 – $309

There aren’t many options when it comes to pure, stock Android tablets. Arguably, last year’s Nexus 9 is still the best value for money. Right now, the powerful 9-inch tablet is available in its 32GB flavor for just $309 on Amazon (down from full retail price of $479).

Kindle Fire 8 and 6

Although they don’t technically run a pure Android, they’re still Android-based and have discounted for most of the holiday season. The Fire 8 has only been out a short while, and is down to $129 (from $149) until December 20. The Kindle Fire 6, similarly is down $20 from $99 to $79. Both will make ideal value Christmas gifts.

Galaxy Tab S2 – $398

It’s not quite at the low price it hit during Black Friday weekend, but there’s still $100 off Samsung’s latest 9.7-inch tablet. You snag a 32GB Galaxy Tab S2 for $399 from Best Buy, B&H and Amazon.

Android TV

NVIDIA SHIELD + Remote – $179

As far as Android TV set-top boxes go, there aren’t many that compete with the NVIDIA Shield. The powerful unit is capable of playback up to 4K resolution at 60fps, has 3GB RAM and 16GB storage with the option to expand through MicroSD or external USB-based drive. It’s normally $199 on its own, but is available from B&H for $179 with a free SHIELD Remote (controller is normally $49 on its own). The same deal is available from Amazon.

Sony X-Series Smart 4K 3D TVs – from $1,298

When they launched earlier this year, the 55-inch version of Sony’s premium Android TVs cost $2200. As is often the case with TVs, the price has steadily dropped and is now almost half the price it was in April. Both Amazon and Best Buy sell the 55-inch model at around 40% discount, charging $1298 and $1299 respectively. Bigger models are available with similar discounts.

Sharp Aquos 60-inch – $1,197

Like the Sony TVs, Sharp’s Android-powered AQUOS range has seen its price drop pretty dramatically over the past few months. It’s 60-inch Class 4K TV is now available for just under $1200 from Amazon, B&H and Best Buy.
