‘Music gifts’ feature starts appearing in the Play Music app for some Australian users

Unlimited All Access Music-Google Play-sale-01

A support page showed up yesterday hinting at a new “music gifts” feature coming to Google Play, and now it looks like the feature is launching in some locales. Specifically, Play Music users in Australia seem to be seeing a new option (via Ausdroid) in “Music settings” labeled “Send gift”. Tapping this icon seems to take users to a new page for gifting a Google Play Music subscription…

Here are a couple screenshots showing off the feature:

Music Gifts now showing in Google Play Music for some users - gift 1, 3 or 6 months of All Access to anyone - Ausdroid 2015-10-14 11-37-02

It appears you can gift 1-, 3-, or 6-month subscriptions, priced at $11.99, $35.97, and $71.94, respectively (in Australian dollars). After tapping one of these options, you reportedly have to provide Google with the contact information of the recipient, and you can add a personalized message. If the receiver denies the gift, the subscription price is returned to the sender.

I’m not seeing the feature in the latest version of the Google Play Music app here in the US, but let us know in the comments if you’re seeing it elsewhere in the world. That said, it’s probably only a matter of time before Google makes this official.
