Report: Samsung pushing Marshmallow to most Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 4, and Note 5 variants

According to a report this morning out of the well-sourced SamMobile, the South Korea-based Android OEM is planing to push Android 6.0 Marshmallow to a whole slew of its most popular handsets. Among those making the initial list are most variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note 5. For good measure, Samsung threw in the Verizon variant of the Galaxy Note Edge and the Galaxy S5 Neo. Why not?..

Samsung doesn’t typically come out and announce the handsets that are getting major updates, unlike some of its competitors, so we’re usually just left sitting around refreshing our update Settings page and crossing our fingers. Thanks to this list, though, we at least have some idea of the tentative plans of the company. And it looks like if you’ve purchased a mid- or upper-tier Samsung phone in the last couple years, you’re going to be getting Marshmallow sometime in the future.

Of course this chart isn’t necessarily exhaustive. While many of these devices seem like the obvious candidates (considering most of them were just released or released sometime in the last 24 months), there’s definitely a possibility that some of the less popular or lower-end handsets could get Marshmallow as well at some point. The Galaxy S5 Neo, for example, made this list — and it’s definitely not a flagship.
