OnePlus CEO teases ‘X’ device ahead of October 12 launch event

OnePlus has an announcement to make in India on October 12, in which it is expected to unveil its third phone, as well as a renewed focus on the Indian market. This could mean products made in India, similar to a move made recently by Xiaomi, another Chinese manufacturer. Likewise, Motorola was also keen recently to show off its own India-based manufacturing plant. It’s clear then that this is the market to be focussing on, it’s developing at a break-pace as flagship components become available for lower prices.

Exactly what OnePlus has to show off is yet to be seen. More than likely, it’s the company’s cheaper model smartphone, nicknamed the OnePlus X or OnePlus mini. Pete Lau, the company’s co-founder shared an image on Weibo teasing an ‘X’ on a fitness app, with the caption “Dissatisfied run a X“. Make of that what you will, but to us, it seems pretty clear that he’s teasing the “OnePlus X” or, at the very least, referencing the rumors of this unreleased device:

We’ve seen multiple rumors purporting to reveal information about OnePlus’ next smartphone. Carl Pei, the company’s other co-founder pretty much confirmed that the phone will not be a flagship device, instead a more competitive low-end phone. With the launch taking place in India, it’s as near it can be to confirmed that the smartphone will launch in that country. More than likely, customers there will be able to order it on OnePlus’ official India-based Amazon store.

While we’re expecting a device with a slim, plastic build and similar specifications to the original OnePlus One, we’re uncertain of other specs. It has been rumored in the past that we’ll see a 5-inch display and a either a Snapdragon or MediaTek processor, but it’s all very speculative at the moment. All we do know is that it’s coming, and that India has a big part to play in its launch.
