New LG V10 render leak shows secondary ticker display

A few weeks ago, an unreleased and unnamed LG device passed through TENAA, China’s version of the FCC. The images showed what seemed to be an unremarkable device albeit one with the unusual design choice of having the front-facing camera built into the display. Later on it was revealed by Evan Blass (@evleaks) that there would be a secondary ticker display running along the top of the primary display.

Today, the well-known leaker is back with what looks like an official press render of that device, confirming that speculation…

From the looks of the image, it appears that this ticker display can be used to quickly launch apps. However, we’d be surprised if that was the only function of the ticker display. With it being at the top, I can’t help but feel its primary use should be to show contents of incoming notifications. Message previews from SMS or chat apps, for instance, would be a perfect use-case for a secondary screen.

While speculating how a ticker display is going to be utilized is once way to pass the time, perhaps the bigger question is why LG might want two cameras on the front in that position? Will it be a smartphone that offers some kind of 3D or background defocus effect for selfies? Other rumored specifications of the V10 include a 5.7-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 808 processor, 16MP camera and fingerprint scanner.

LG has an event planned for October the 1st. While we don’t know exactly what it intends to announce at its movie-inspired event, the LG V10 could be joined by an LG G4 Pro onstage at that event in New York City. Or, for all we know, this is the LG G4 Pro. In which case, although it is — sort of — a big version of the LG G4, it’ll be branded as a V-series phone and not a G-series device.
