Acer Predator 8 gaming tablet announced: Octa-core, 4GB RAM, 21MP camera and four speakers coming soon for $299

Acer unveiled a range of ‘Predator’ branded products at its conference this morning, including a quick teaser of an incredibly powerful smartphone. While that was only teased, the company has officially announced the Predator 8, a small, but powerful 8-inch tablet running Android 5.1 Lollipop. It’ll be available in 2-3 weeks time. From first impressions, it sure seems like a lot of bang for your buck …

Acer’s Predator 8 tablet boasts an octa-core Intel X7 processor paired with a generous 4GB RAM. It has a serious 21MP camera on the back, and 4 front-facing loudspeakers to immerse you in your gaming content. While those specs are impressive, it’s perhaps the touchscreen sensors that are most interesting. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note series, Acer has incorporated touch sensors which are more densely laid out, designed to give you more precise control and enable the use of Acer’s Accurate Stylus for writing and drawing. What’s more, it also features TacSense, offering tactile feedback and vibrations that you won’t get from other tablets. Essentially, the DualShock of tablet vibrator motors.

Its design is something else. There are lots of sharp angles, with a brushed metal effect finish, red lines and an angry brand logo on the back. If the look doesn’t say ‘this is for serious gamers’, I’m not sure what does. It almost doesn’t look real, and will surely draw attention to itself went sat on shelves alongside your usual Galaxy Tabs and iPads. It measures just 8.7mm thin, and weighs only 350 grams. It also features 2×2 MiMo technology for reliable and fast wireless connectivity.

Acer will roll out the Predator 8 launch beginning with Europe and Asia in October, before skipping the pond to the States in November, where you’ll be able to pick it up for just $299.
