First look at Fallout for Android [Video]

Yesterday, Bethesda finally launched the long-awaited Fallout Shelter for Android and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. In this video, I take you on a brief walkthrough and tour of the initial game stages and how to play. If you haven’t already, you can download the game for free from the Google Play Store right now.

The basic principle of the game is simple: Survive. In order to keep dwellers happy and healthy, you need to have a constant supply of power, water and food. If you don’t, they’ll most likely die from radiation poisoning or starvation. As you build more rooms in the subterranean vault and keep your dwellers happy, you’ll attract more people. You can procreate, explore and collect new clothing and weapons as well as health packs to help deal with radiation.

Once you’re confident you can keep all your workers and dwellers happy and alive, you turn your attention to expanding, building more and unlocking new rooms and achievements. You do so through collecting credits and attracting dwellers.

If you want to, you can use in-app purchases to buy surprise packages which boost your vitals, credits and reward you with outfits and weapons. What I like about these in-app purchases is that I haven’t yet felt like I’m being forced to spend my money on them. They’re there if I want them, but easy to ignore.

Graphics are crisp and sharp and I’ve really enjoyed the added 3D element adding depth and perspective to the rooms. I’ve played many similar games which are mostly 2D platform tower-builders. This is a step above those and very addictive too. Things could change as I spend more time with it, but so far, I’m hooked.
