LG’s G4 gets an iFixit teardown, beats all of this year’s flagships in repairability

This year’s Android flagships have really gotten the beating from iFixit. The group gave the HTC One M9 a 2/10 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 a slightly-better 4/10, just as two examples. But the LG G4, which many believe to be the best Android handset introduced this year as of yet, seems to have an advantage in terms of repairability as well. At least partially due to the fact that it’s one of the only handsets left that has a removable back, iFixit has graced LG’s flagship with a repairability score of 8/10.

On top of the device needing absolutely no tools to remove the back and battery (which is actually a big deal in 2015), iFixit says that many of the phone’s components are “modular” and can be removed and replaced on an independent basis. The site says that you just need a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove some of the deeper components. As for the device’s repairability downsides, iFixit notes the minor inconvenience that the device has a fused display assembly, meaning that glass and LCD will need to be replaced together.

Be sure to head over and read the full teardown at iFixit’s website.
