HTC introduces a 24-karat gold One M9, takes its photo with an iPhone

Introducing smart devices made of gold isn’t exactly a new concept (and it’s gone mainstream to a new degree as of late), but now Taiwanese phone maker HTC is on board. Some think the phone is gorgeous in gold, and some think it’s absolutely disgusting. Either way, the company’s flagship smartphone, the One M9, isn’t going to make its way up to par with the Android flagships with a 24-karat gold body.

Oh, and it looks like HTC also managed to accidentally reveal that photos they took to unveil the phone… were taken with an iPhone.

Although many of us in the United States might not even know what the UEFA Champions League is—much less care about a premium HTC One M9 smartphone branded as such—it looks like HTC is seizing the opportunity of the final Champions League match to introduce a blinged-out version of its less-than-well-received handset.

But check out the below photo that the company posted to their official Twitter account. As noticed by a lone Twitter user (via VentureBeat), in the bottom-right, you can see the reflection of what is assumably an HTC employee taking a photo of the device with an iPhone–either the 6 or the 6 Plus.

Unsurprisingly, the company has already pulled the image from its Twitter profile:

Yep, this photo came straight from the @HTC Twitter account

HTC hasn’t said how or when you’ll be able to ever actually buy this phone at retail, though it’s assumable that they’re only going to be making a very select few and that they’re going to cost way more than the average person has to spend on a smartphone. And even if they were somewhat affordable and more mass-produced, I would still recommend you go with basically any of the other Android flagships released so far this year. The One M9 is lacking in many areas, and HTC is struggling.
