Google Keep gets full-fledged Android Wear support in latest update

Google has announced today that its Keep note-taking app has now received full Android Wear support, letting you view your check lists, photos, and notes straight from your wrist…

At the grocery store, juggling your shopping list with a gallon of milk, a basket of food, and your phone usually ends up with a “Spill in aisle 4.” Starting today, you can leave your phone in your pocket and view notes on your Android Wear device. Just start Keep from the app list or say “OK Google, open Keep” to begin browsing notes on your wrist. To take a new note, you can still use “OK Google, take a note.”

Interestingly, this is one of the two mysterious apps that Google showed off at the top of its recent announcement of (what is assumed to be) Android Wear 5.1. The one in the middle looks to be some future version of Google Maps for Android Wear, and today’s update to Keep looks a lot like the app that was shown on the right.

The new app lets you do a lot. You can open the app by saying “OK Google, open Keep” (or launch the app from the app drawer), and you can create new notes by saying “OK Google, take a note.” You can swipe through notes, view them, and tap the plus sign at the top to create a new one. “You can also add reminders to notes directly from your Android Wear watch,” Google says. “With this update, Keep will support recurring reminders too!”

Google also recently added labels to the Android app (like “To-dos” as you can see below) to help keep your thoughts organized:

You can get the Keep app from the Play Store for free.

Our thoughts: Android Wear seems to be on the brink of becoming a lot more useful, and this is just one more update that Google’s bringing to the table to make that happen. With this update being confirmation of a previously unknown app that Google showed but didn’t mention in its post on Monday, I’m excited to hear about what is going to happen with Maps.
