Archos announces two new 4G devices: Diamond smartphone, 80b Helium tablet

It’s not unusual for companies to announce what they have in store for CES in the days leading up to the show, as they would love to get as much attention as they can before the flood of announcements come next week. That’s what Archos has done today, announcing a couple of super-affordable new devices they say will help “strengthen its 4G range”: the Diamond smartphone and the 80b Helium tablet.

Both of these devices are going to come in at the bottom-of-the-market tier of less than $200, and they’re going to sport hardware that reflects that (although maybe a little better than you might expect). In addition to 4G capability, the Diamond smartphone is going to have a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display, 2GB of RAM, an octa-core processor, a 16 MP camera, and 16 GB of flash storage. The 80b tablet also has 4G, as well as a 1.5 GHz processor and an 8-inch screen. Archos hasn’t released many details on its tablet offering yet, but I’m sure we’ll learn more at CES.

Of course, both of the devices are going to be running Android, but it looks like they’re going to be stuck on a version earlier than Lollipop. But you can’t complain considering the prices that these devices are going to ship at—the Diamond is expected at less than $200, while the 80b tablet is going to come in at less than $150.

The Diamond is fully loaded with an octa-core processor, 16 GB of internal storage and 2 GB of RAM, a 16 MP camera, and a 5 inch full HD IPS allowing users to fully enjoy games or movies without delays thanks to 4G speeds.

With the resolution of the ARCHOS 80b Helium 4G, consumers can not only enjoy various multimedia content but also enjoy all the games available on Google Play Store, thanks to its 1.5GHz Quad Core processor.
