Hands-on clip gives detailed look at upcoming Samsung Galaxy A3 (Video)

A new clip has emerged on the internet showing off one of Samsung’s upcoming handsets, namely the Galaxy A3. This device is one of a pair—the other being the A5—that were announced by the Korean company earlier this year, filling a gap in the company’s lineup with some mid- to low-range thin and metal-clad handsets.

The clip you’ll find below compares the A3 to a few different Samsung phones, including the company’s current and first metal offering—the Galaxy Alpha. Not much new can really be gleaned from the video alone, but it’s interesting to see how Samsung’s upcoming metal-edged device compares to the one that’s already available. You’ll also get a look at the phone’s various new themes and backgrounds that come installed as part of the infamous TouchWiz software.

As has been mentioned before, the Galaxy A3 packs a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, a 960 x 540 resolution (4.5-inch) QHD Super AMOLED display, a measly 1 GB of RAM, and a 1,900 mAh battery. In comparison, the phone’s big brother, the A5, features the same processor, a larger 1,280 x 720 resolution (5-inch) Super AMOLED display, 2 GB of RAM, and a 2,300 mAh battery. The A3 features the very same 5-megapixel front-facing camera as the A5, but has a lesser 8-megapixel rear camera.

Neither of the two devices are all too special nor powerful, and both will be shipping with the now-archaic Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Samsung said at their release that the Galaxy A3 and A5 would be available “in select markets including China” at some point in November, and that was true for the A5 (in China), but it looks like both devices will likely be landing in the U.S. and Europe in early 2015.
