Samsung introduces its new 64-bit Exynos 7 Octa processor

Samsung revealed its new Exynos 7 Octa today, a 20nm setup loaded with four ARMv8 Cortex A57 cores and four Cortex A53 cores in a big.LITTLE configuration. This allows any of the chip’s cores to be active as needed, which also contributes to the Exynos 7 Octa’s efficient performance.

Samsung says that its new chip is capable of outperforming its predecessor by up to 57 percent. In terms of its graphical performance, the Korean electronics manufacturer’s new SoC packs a Mali T760 GPU, which the company claims adds up to a 74 percent improvement over the T628MP6 GPU found in the Exynos 5 Octa. This includes support for 2,560 x 1,440 and 2,560 x 1,600 displays, along with the ability to simultaneously capture HD content from a device’s front and rear cameras. In addition to recording high-res material, the Exynos 7 Octa can output 4K video to a compatible monitor or TV, which might come in handy for gaming and UHD content viewing.

Samsung didn’t disclose its new chip’s clock speeds, but on the surface of things, the Exynos 7 Octa appears to be the company’s 64-bit take on its Exynos 5433, which can be found in the international version of the Galaxy Note 4.
