Samsung reportedly launching all-metal Galaxy Alpha smartphone next month

According to a new report out of Korean news outlet ETNews, Samsung is preparing to launch an all-metal device as early as next month called the Galaxy Alpha. According to the report, Samsung intends to heavily market the device as a competitor to Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6.

According to industry insiders on July 13, the Galaxy Alpha, which Samsung will launch next month, is a premium smartphone made of a metal. It is forecast to counter the iPhone 6 scheduled to be released in September. It appears that Samsung will rebound from its recent poor performance with a new smartphone lineup, not the Galaxy S or Galaxy Note Series.

Launching the Galaxy Alpha device in the second half of the year goes against Samsung’s normal trend of releasing a Galaxy S flagship during the first half and a Galaxy Note flagship during the second half of the year. Of course, many questions remain surrounding the Galaxy Alpha, including its specifications and in which markets it will launch.

According to the sources who spoke directly to ETNews, Samsung is ready to launch the all-metal device in “select markets” as early as next month. The report also claims that the Galaxy Alpha will have “better performance” than the Galaxy S5. The report notes that the Galaxy Alpha will be a line of smartphones eventually, but the first device will simply be called the Alpha.

If the device does indeed launch next month, then we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for an official word from Samsung. Needless to say, though, an all-metal device from Samsung is certainly intriguing.
