Sony’s selfie-focused Xperia C3 will reportedly be announced tomorrow

Smartphones built around gimmicks haven’t been that well received, but that won’t stop companies from producing them. Today, on its official Xperia Twitter profile, Sony posted a tweet saying “See your #selfies in a whole new light.” This cryptic message also included the hashtags “#GetTheFullPicture #Tomorrow.” Almost in tandem, a post from ePrice hit Chinese microblogging site Weibo revealing pictures of a smartphone referred to as the Sony Xperia C3.

Pictures of the unannounced handset were accompanied by a message claiming the phone will feature a self-timer function with pre-flash, along with voice and gesture support. Most interestingly, the Weibo post referenced a release date of July 8th, which falls in line with Sony’s recent tweet. ePrice’s message also noted that like most novelty smartphones, Sony’s selfie-focused device will have modest hardware, so don’t expect much under the hood.

While a phone like this could possibly be appealing to teenagers and casual smartphone users, we wouldn’t expect it to win over hardcore tech enthusiasts. We’ve reached out to Sony for comment and will update this news article if any new information becomes available.
