Samsung announced today in a press release that it’s making the Tizen-based developer kit for its new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo wearables available to developers starting today.
With the new Tizen SDK for Wearables, a variety of applications for Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are expected to be developed by active Tizen app developer community. Samsung continues to focus on shaping the future of the wearable technology as well as expanding more possibilities for app developers, partners, and consumers.
Samsung also took some time to announce partners already developing apps that will launch on the two new wearables. Some of the more notables include CNN, eBay, Runtastic, iHeartRadio, Conde Nast, Expedia, and Feedly.
Samsung officially unveiled its new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smart watches last month. Both of the devices take cues from Samsung’s previous Galaxy Gear smartwatch, with the big difference a switch to a Tizen-based OS rather than Android. Both of the new watches include a 1.63-inch touchscreen, 4Gb of internal storage, a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 300mAh battery and 512MB of RAM. The Gear 2 also features a 2MP camera with 720p video capabilities, while the Neo doesn’t include a camera at all.
The Tizen SDK for Wearables is now available through the developer.tizen.org site.
