Vocal developer advocate Tim Bray announces departure from Google

Tim Bray

Co-inventor of XML and sharply opinionated developer advocate Tim Bray announced on his blog today plans to leave Google next month. The departure, Bray says, ultimately comes down to differences over working remotely.

It’s an amicable separation in the face of irreconcilable differences: I wouldn’t move to California and Google wouldn’t open a Vancouver office.

Bray began at Google in 2010 as an advocate focusing on Android. In 2012, Bray moved from working with Android to Identity projects including OpenID and OAuth.

We’ve previously pointed to his insightful writing since his time at Google.

Bray’s blog post announcing his departure is worth a read as he writes openly in a Q&A format about his exit and what he anticipates next.
